Hyperhidrosis refers to excessive perspiration in certain areas of the body: the feet, underarms or palms, and more rarely on the neck and legs. This causes daily embarrassment and discomfort which affects social life.

Botulinum toxin blocks the release of acetylcholine from the sweat glands and slows this excessive perspiration.

The treatment of underarm perspiration gives excellent results without notable side effects. Treatment of the hands and feet can reduce muscle strength.

First the armpits are shaved and no antiperspirant should be used for four days prior to treatment.

Small droplets of the product are injected into the skin’s surface using fine intradermal injections in a grid pattern corresponding to the perspiration area.

There is some redness and sometimes slight bruising that disappear quickly.

An anaesthetic cream is applied 1 ½ hours before treatment.

The effects of botulinum toxin are visible within a week. You will notice a significant decrease in perspiration. The effects of treatment last for 6 to 12 months and treatment is repeated once or twice a year.

You should not have Botox injections if you have certain neuromuscular diseases, if you are taking aminoglycosides, if you are allergic to botulinum toxin, have an infection in the area treated, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
